------------------------------------------------- Over the summer a friend of mine, named Gus Gavino, asked if he could shoot a video for a song from "the Fear". I said yes. I'd seen Gus' work in the past and was happy to have his help. He showed with the lovely Gladys Bernadac and shot what you'll see below... enjoy.

September 2009 DEEP ELM RECORDS is pleased to welcome songwriter NATHAN XANDER from Chicago, IL to our family of fine artists. The label is also pleased to announce the release of Nathan's Deep Elm debut "The Fear" (11 Songs, 46 min, DER-482) which is available now in CD format as well as on iTunes, eMusic, Amazon and most other digital music services worldwide. This is the third of twelve new releases available from Deep Elm. Preview / Get a Free Download: http://www.deepelm.com/482 Every once in a while comes a great American songwriter. A songwriter whose imagery flows like poetry. A songwriter whose compositions delicately balance heart, introspection and faith, yet are still delivered with a raw rock sound. A songwriter whose music bravely echoes in the footsteps of his forbearers with its thought provoking and emotionally vulnerable lyrics, while never sounding too much like any well-known practitioner. A songwriter whose music is a sincere vehicle for personal expression and the canvas for his compelling, raspy tenor and keen lyrical sensibility. A songwriter who ever so humbly lays it all on the line. That songwriter has arrived...and his name is NATHAN XANDER. “I consider myself an American songwriter. Sort of like Tom Petty” says Xander, who was first inspired to write his own material by the music of Neil Young, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Gram Parsons amongst others. “THE FEAR is an honest record. That's what I’m drawn to in the music I listen to and it’s what I try to do when I'm writing. I wake up and fall asleep thinking about honest songs" he says. “I’m really a mix of every band that I like. It's not as if I'm trying to sound After The Gold Rush-era on this song, or have a Dylanesque harmonica on that song. It just filters in there.” And it’s not a problem that people liken his voice to Dylan’s...more a compliment. “When I started writing songs, it was Bob Dylan that really made me want to do it” says Xander. THE FEAR is a stunning album which at its core serves as both a reverent nod to Xander’s influences as well as a window into his own world of homespun individuality.

June 2009 ------------------------------------------------- http://chicagoacoustic.net/podcasts/NathanXander2009.mp3 That, up there, is a link to an episode of Chicago Acoustic Underground that I recorded with Michael Teach a while back... The songs that I'm playing on the episode were all pretty new at the time... Most were pretty fresh from being written for The Fear. Take a listen if you've got some time. CAU goes out to somewhere near 150,000 people in over 30 countries...
May 2009 You can check out the show at: www.americanaok.com And listen to a few others while you're there. They play some really great stuff.

------------------------------------------------- The Fear was voted this month's album of the month by The Deli Magazine. This is what they had to say:
>>
As its core, The Fear is roots rock and a big chunk of Americana. This album is honest and filled with heart, fear, and ultimately faith. What will draw new listeners to this collection is that faith, especially during these times. As we all begin to dig deeper, think harder about how we live and how we spend, the decision to purchase an album may be difficult. Yet, purely independent artists like Xander with stripped down and simple stories should be the first to get our support. Search for the self-released albums and spend what you can. Let them know that you are here for them and that they have nothing to fear. Now, I'm not sure about the 2nd paragraph. Makes me sound like Woody Guthrie or something but we'll take it any way. If you'd like you can see the original here!
